Application for position of medical doctor in Lamin Health Center, the Gambia

General information
The Gambia is a developing country in West Africa with about 2 million inhabitants. Most of them are muslim and a minority is christian. Healthcare is poor in this country due to lack of resources, distances and poor income. The average life expectancy is about 30 years less than in the Western world. The child mortality is high, hypertension and diabetes are very common and so are infectious diseases like tuberculosis and malaria.

Our Health Facilities
Lamin Health Center is a non-profit Clinic with a capacity of 21 admission beds, including a pediatric ward, delivery room, emergency room, laboratory and dressing room. It is the only clinic for the village of Lamin and it's surrounding villages and we cover an area of about 35.000 inhabitants. We have 3 Health Posts in the surrounding villages and 2 tracking teams attending those facilities daily. We also have a dental clinic which started running in June 2018.
About 2000-3000 patients a month visit our facilities. We do minor surgical procedures, deliveries and we have an antenatal care programme. We provide basic laboratory testing, run ECG's and we have an ultrasound machine.
We strive to provide high quality healthcare for an affortable price for our community. We are educating our staff and strive for the practice of evidence based care medicine. We recently started a high quality antenatal care programme and opened up a dental clinic

Position
We seek for a medical doctor to strengthen our team. Preferably, but not necessarily, with medical experience in surgical, gynaecological and pediatric field. The position is open for short and long term stays. We seek for a colleague who is willing to bring the knowledge of our staffmembers to the next level by education, teaching of practical skills and implementing and reviewing new protocols. You are able to perform surgical procedures and deliveries.

You will work monday-friday from 8.00 – 14.00.  You will be on call some days and in weekends. Some weekends you will do consultations from 8.00-14.00 as well.
You will receive a monthly salary enough to get around in the Gambia. Accommodation is possible.
